Checking accounts are often the first sign of independence that an individual will take part in. In most cases, many of the other important things – such as purchasing a car or that of a house – will usually require that a person has a checking or some sort of bank account. This type of account is also vital to business and banks provide special features in business banking.
A checking account is the easiest of accounts to not only use, but to set up as well, usually only requiring a small amount to get started. It is also a key to establishing credit. Showing lenders you can maintain a balance in your accounts is a sign of a qualified loan recipient. From there, money is available for withdrawal and deposit; thanks to technology, many employers offer direct deposit for their employees. Direct deposit means that employees need not wait around for the daily checks to come in and then, wait until their lunch or the end of the day to cash them.
If your company offers the benefits of a 401k program that you participate in, they will continue deduct your contributions along with the normal taxes from your paycheck and directly deposit the remainder of your check into your account automatically. It’s actually quite simple; employees sign up for direct deposit by giving the employer their bank account number and routing number. The employer then sets up for payment to be made directly into the account. This means that employees have faster access to their money, usually before they even show up to work in the morning. Technology has also given banking customers better control of their checking and saving accounts by allowing them 24/7 access through phone and online means.
This means that customers can not only check their accounts, but they can also use them to pay bills through either manual or automatic payments, a feature that is also very helpful to both small business owners and leaders of large companies. Some banks even allow for customers to cash checks through their specially designed printers or smartphones from their homes.
